John Phillips is a New Zealand primary school teacher and songwriter whose work for young audiences includes writing and recording classroom songs and creating picture books.
His debut picture book, Bad Hair Day, pairs the lyrics of his widely shared classroom song with new illustrations by Jennifer Jamieson. Publisher information describes the book as a read-aloud that invites children to sing and move along using the song’s refrain and actions.
Bad Hair Day is published by words & pictures, an imprint of The Quarto Group, with retail listings noting Phillips as the song’s creator and a long-serving teacher. The book appears in UK children’s reading recommendations and has been promoted to schools and libraries through trade and review channels.
Bad Hair Day was first published on 26 October 2023.
