Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Frenci Sanna is an Italian illustrator and picture book author who grew up on the island of Sardinia. Sanna moved to Germany and then to Switzerland to study illustration, completed a Masters of Art in Illustration at the Academy of Art and Design in Lucerne in June 2015, and attended the School of Visual Arts Summer Residency in Illustration in New York in 2014.
Sanna wrote and illustrated the picture book The Journey, published by Flying Eye Books in 2016. The book was shortlisted for the 2017 CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal.
Sanna’s later books include Me and My Fear, published by Flying Eye Books on 1 September 2018.
The Journey won the Klaus Flugge Prize in 2017.
May 2026’s book club includes titles by Duncan Beedie, Darren Chetty, Sandhya Prabhat, Zoey Allen, Harriet Muncaster, Paul Ian Cross, Jamie Hammond, Jordan Ifueko, Nathanael Lessore, Ravena Guron, Sarah Beth Durst and Tig Wallace.
