Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
E.L Norry is a British author known for her work in children’s literature. She has written both fiction and non-fiction, often exploring themes of identity, belonging, and history. Norry contributed to the Scholastic Voices series with her book Son of the Circus: A Victorian Story, which was published by Scholastic in 2019. This novel is set in Victorian England and follows the story of Ted, the mixed-race son of Pablo Fanque, a real-life Black circus owner.
In addition to her fiction, E.L Norry has written non-fiction titles for younger readers. She authored Nelson Mandela for the Scholastic Black Stories Matter series, introducing children to the life and legacy of the South African leader. Norry has also contributed to anthologies, including Happy Here, a collection of stories by Black British authors, published by Knights Of in partnership with BookTrust in 2021.
E.L Norry’s work is included in educational and reading initiatives, and she has participated in events and projects aimed at promoting diversity in children’s literature. Her book Son of the Circus: A Victorian Story was published by Scholastic in 2019.
