Dawn Casey is a British author known for her children’s books, particularly picture books and retellings of traditional tales. Her works often draw on folklore, myths, and stories from around the world. Casey’s books include Babushka, published by Lion Children’s Books, and The Great Race: The Story of the Chinese Zodiac, published by Barefoot Books. She has also written The Barefoot Book of Earth Tales and Spin a Scarf of Sunshine, both published by Barefoot Books.
Casey’s titles have been illustrated by various artists, including Anne Wilson and Jessica Courtney-Tickle. Her book The Barefoot Book of Earth Tales was shortlisted for the 2010 UKLA Children’s Book Award. Spin a Scarf of Sunshine was published in 2020 and illustrated by Stila Lim.
Casey’s work has been published by several UK publishers, including Barefoot Books, Lion Children’s Books, and Frances Lincoln Children’s Books. Her retellings and original stories are used in educational and library settings. Babushka was first published in 2002 and remains in print.
In 2022, Casey published The Bumblebee Garden, illustrated by Stella Lim and published by Scallywag Press. Her books have been translated into multiple languages. The Great Race: The Story of the Chinese Zodiac continues to be used in schools to introduce children to world cultures and folklore.
