Carl Anka is a London-born journalist and broadcaster. He has written for BBC, Guardian, VICE, NME, GQ and BuzzFeed in print and online, with areas of work including pop culture, video games, films and football. He has worked as a reporter covering Manchester United and as host of the Talk of the Devils podcast.
Anka co-wrote You Are a Champion: How to Be the Best You Can Be with Marcus Rashford. The children’s non-fiction book was published by Macmillan Children’s Books on 27 May 2021, has 224 pages, and is aimed at readers aged 10 to 14.
You Are a Champion combines stories from Rashford’s life with advice for young readers and includes tips from performance psychologist Katie Warriner. Its topics include self-belief, practising, learning from mistakes, dealing with adversity, finding a team, using your voice and continuing to learn.
You Are a Champion was Anka’s debut children’s book. Pan Macmillan pledged 20,000 free copies of the book to support UK bookshop crowdfunding initiatives that aimed to reach disadvantaged children.
