Beatrix Potter was an English author, illustrator, natural scientist, and conservationist. She is best known for her children’s books featuring animals, notably The Tale of Peter Rabbit, first published in 1902 by Frederick Warne & Co. Potter wrote and illustrated more than twenty books, including The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin (1903), The Tailor of Gloucester (1903), The Tale of Benjamin Bunny (1904), and The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck (1908).
Her works are characterised by detailed illustrations and anthropomorphic animal characters. Potter’s books have been translated into numerous languages and have sold millions of copies worldwide. In addition to her literary achievements, she was recognised for her work in mycology and land conservation.
Potter’s legacy includes the enduring popularity of her stories and characters, as well as her contributions to the preservation of the Lake District landscape. The Tale of Peter Rabbit remains one of the best-selling books of all time.
