Angelina Osborne biography

Angelina Osborne is a British historian, independent researcher and heritage consultant. She earned her PhD in History from the Wilberforce Institute at the University of Hull in 2014, focusing on Caribbean enslavement, proslavery discourse and community and education activism.

Osborne is co‑author with Patrick Vernon of 100 Great Black Britons: A Celebration of the Extraordinary Contribution of Key Figures of African or Caribbean Descent to British Life, first published in 2020. This volume is part of the wider 100 Great Black Britons campaign and aims to highlight prominent individuals throughout British history.

Earlier, in 2007, Osborne authored Equiano’s Daughter: The Life and Times of Joanna Vassa, Daughter of Olaudah Equiano, a biographical work examining Joanna Vassa’s life, published following family genealogy research and academic study.

She has served as a speaker and expert on Black British history, slavery, abolition and teaching difficult histories, appearing on platforms including BBC Radio’s Woman’s Hour. Osborne also works as a heritage consultant and contributes to educational initiatives in race and history.

Her research combines academic rigour with public engagement and has supported curriculum development and museum interpretation across the UK. She continues to promote awareness of historical narratives often overlooked in mainstream education.

The most recent milestone in her career is the publication of 100 Great Black Britons in 2020.
