Andrea Warner biography

Andrea Warner is a Canadian author, journalist and broadcaster known for her work on music, arts and pop culture. Born and raised in Vancouver, she writes as a freelance critic and culture writer. She serves as a radio columnist and associate producer at CBC Music and co-hosts the feminist pop‑culture podcast Pop This!

Her debut book, We Oughta Know: How Four Women Ruled the ’90s and Changed Canadian Music, was published in 2015. It explores the impact of Alanis Morissette, Sarah McLachlan, Shania Twain and Céline Dion on Canadian music and culture.

In 2018 she published Buffy Sainte‑Marie: The Authorized Biography, the first authorised life story of the Cree singer‑songwriter. Warner later co‑wrote and served as associate producer on the 2022 documentary film Buffy Sainte‑Marie: Carry It On.

She regularly contributes journalism to outlets including Pitchfork, Georgia Straight, Literary Review of Canada, Chatelaine and Exclaim!, and serves on the jury for the Polaris Music Prize.
