Andrea Beaty is an American children’s author acclaimed for her engaging picture books that intertwine storytelling with themes of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Her works are recognised for inspiring young readers to explore curiosity, creativity, and perseverance.

Born in Benton, Illinois, Beaty was raised in a small town in southern Illinois. As a child, she was an avid reader, particularly enjoying Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden mysteries. She pursued higher education at Southern Illinois University, studying biology and computer science. Following her studies, she worked at a computer software company, where she assisted users and engaged in technical writing—a role that honed her skills in clear and concise communication.

Beaty’s transition to children’s literature led to the creation of numerous acclaimed books. Among her most notable works are Iggy Peck, Architect (2007), Rosie Revere, Engineer (2013), and Ada Twist, Scientist (2016). These titles form part of the “Questioneers” series, which encourages children to embrace inquiry and innovation. The series has expanded to include characters like Sofia Valdez and Aaron Slater, each highlighting different aspects of creativity and problem-solving.

Her books have received widespread recognition, including selections by the Junior Library Guild and appearances on The New York Times Best Seller list. Ada Twist, Scientist was adapted into a Netflix animated series in 2021, produced by Higher Ground Productions, the company founded by Barack and Michelle Obama.
