Adèle Geras biography

Adèle Geras is an English writer of children’s, young adult and adult fiction. She was born in Jerusalem and attended Roedean School before studying Modern Languages at St Hilda’s College, Oxford.

Her first book, Tea at Mrs Manderby’s, was published in 1976. Her young adult novel Troy (2000), a retelling connected to the Trojan War, was shortlisted for the Whitbread Children’s Book Award and was also a Carnegie Medal title.

Her books also include Ithaka and Golden Windows. In the United States, My Grandmother’s Stories won a Sydney Taylor Book Award, and Golden Windows received the National Jewish Book Award.

Geras was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2014.
