Zanib Mian is a British author known for her children’s books, particularly those that explore themes of identity and belonging. She began her career as a science teacher before turning to writing. Mian initially self-published her work and later founded Sweet Apple Publishers, a company focused on diverse children’s literature.
Her writing often features Muslim characters and aims to reflect a range of backgrounds and experiences. Mian is the author of the Planet Omar series, which follows the adventures of a young British Muslim boy. The first book in the series, Planet Omar: Accidental Trouble Magnet, was published by Hachette Children’s Group in 2019. The series has been recognised for its humour and accessible approach to important topics.
In addition to the Planet Omar books, Mian has written other titles for children, including The Muslims, which won the Little Rebels Award for Radical Children’s Fiction in 2018. Her work is published by Hachette Children’s Group.
In 2021, Zanib Mian was shortlisted for the Laugh Out Loud Book Awards (Lollies) for Planet Omar: Accidental Trouble Magnet.
