Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
William Hussey is a British author known for his work in children’s and young adult fiction. He has written across several genres, including horror, thriller, and LGBTQ+ themes. Hussey’s debut novel, Witchfinder: Dawn of the Demontide, was published by Oxford University Press in 2010. This book is the first in the Witchfinder trilogy, followed by Gallows at Twilight and The Last Nightfall.
Hussey’s other works include Haunted (2013), a horror novel for younger readers, and Hideous Beauty (2020), published by Usborne. Hideous Beauty explores themes of love and loss and was shortlisted for the YA Book Prize in 2021. In 2021, he published The Outrage, also with Usborne, which was longlisted for the 2022 CILIP Carnegie Medal.
Hussey’s books have been published by major UK publishers, including Oxford University Press and Usborne. His writing often addresses contemporary social issues within the context of genre fiction. The Outrage was selected for the 2022 EmpathyLab Read for Empathy collection.
William Hussey’s Hideous Beauty was shortlisted for the 2021 YA Book Prize.
