Will Sliney biography

Will Sliney is an Irish comic-book artist, writer and television presenter whose work includes comics for Marvel and Star Wars. He began his career working on independent comics before contributing to major international titles, and has worked as a penciller and inker across superhero and science-fiction series.

For Marvel, Sliney has drawn titles including Fearless Defenders and Spider-Man 2099, collaborating with writer Peter David on the latter. His extensive Star Wars work includes Solo: A Star Wars Story Adaptation and Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren, written by Charles Soule. Sliney and Soule co-created Ren, the leader of the Knights of Ren who appears in that series.

Sliney is also the writer and illustrator of Celtic Warrior: The Legend of Cú Chulainn, published by The O’Brien Press in 2013. The graphic novel retells material from the Ulster Cycle, including Cú Chulainn’s defence of Ulster against the forces of Queen Maeve. He later collaborated again with Charles Soule on The Shrouded College, an original supernatural comics universe that includes Hell to Pay.

Alongside his comics work, Sliney has developed drawing programmes for children. During the Covid-19 pandemic he presented drawing lessons for RTÉ’s Home School Hub, and he subsequently fronted Will Sliney’s Storytellers for RTÉ and Draw with Will for Sky Kids, both combining drawing instruction with storytelling.

His children’s activity book Draw With Will, published by Gallery Kids in the UK in March 2025, uses step-by-step exercises, comic panels and drawing challenges to introduce techniques for creating characters, creatures and imaginary worlds.
