Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Tim Budgen is a children’s book illustrator whose work spans picture books, early readers and highly illustrated fiction. He has illustrated for major publishers including Scholastic, Hachette, Penguin Random House, Simon & Schuster, Puffin and Little Tiger, and is represented by Plum Pudding Illustration.
Budgen is the illustrator of CBeebies presenter George Webster’s picture books with collaborator Claire Taylor for Scholastic: This Is Me (2023) and Why Not? (2024). His wider credits include illustration for Megan Rix’s junior fiction series Lizzie and Lucky (Puffin) and contributions to chapter-book and educational lists in the UK and internationally.
Working across digital and traditional techniques, Budgen focuses on expressive character design and clear, child-centred visual storytelling. His portfolio and publisher listings feature board, picture and early-fiction formats for readers from preschool to early independent reading.
Why Not? was published by Scholastic UK in 2024.
