Sona Charaipotra is an American author and journalist known for her work in young adult fiction. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from The New School and a Master’s degree in journalism from New York University. Charaipotra has contributed to a range of publications, including The New York Times and Cosmopolitan.
She is the co-founder of CAKE Literary, a boutique book development company focused on diverse, high-concept stories for children, teens, and women. Alongside Dhonielle Clayton, Charaipotra co-authored the Tiny Pretty Things duology, which includes Tiny Pretty Things (2015) and Shiny Broken Pieces (2016), both published by HarperTeen. The series explores the competitive world of ballet through the perspectives of three young dancers.
Charaipotra’s solo works include Symptoms of a Heartbreak, published by Imprint in 2019. The novel follows a teenage doctor navigating the challenges of her professional and personal life. She has also contributed to anthologies and written essays on topics related to diversity in publishing and storytelling.
In 2022, Sona Charaipotra published How Maya Got Fierce with Macmillan’s Imprint.
