Shelley Jackson is an American writer and artist. She studied with Robert Coover at Brown University. Her best-known work in electronic literature is Patchwork Girl, published in 1995. In the late 1990s, she worked in both hypertext and short stories, and her short story collection The Melancholy of Anatomy was published in 2002. Her first novel, Half Life, was published by HarperCollins in 2006.
Jackson also wrote Riddance, a novel told through documents connected to the Sybil Joines Vocational School for Ghost Speakers & Hearing-Mouth Children. The ebook edition was published on 16 October 2018, and the paperback edition followed on 15 October 2019. Riddance was a finalist for the Believer Book Award for Fiction.
