Scott Snyder biography

Scott Snyder is an American comic-book writer and fiction author. Before establishing his career in comics, he published short fiction in literary journals including Zoetrope, One Story, Tin House and Epoch. His first book, the short-story collection Voodoo Heart, was published by Dial Press in 2006.

Snyder moved into comics with work including American Vampire, published by DC’s Vertigo imprint and created with artist Rafael Albuquerque. The series, which also featured writing by Stephen King in its opening issues, won the 2011 Eisner Award for Best New Series. Snyder subsequently became a major Batman writer for DC, first working on Detective Comics before beginning a long collaboration with artist Greg Capullo on Batman in 2011. Their stories introduced the Court of Owls and included storylines such as Death of the Family and Zero Year.

His other DC work includes Swamp Thing, Superman Unchained, All-Star Batman, Dark Nights: Metal, The Batman Who Laughs and Dark Nights: Death Metal. The Wake, written by Snyder and illustrated by Sean Murphy, won the 2014 Eisner Award for Best Limited Series.

Snyder has also created and co-created independent comics including Wytches with Jock, Undiscovered Country with Charles Soule, Nocterra with Tony S. Daniel and We Have Demons with Greg Capullo.

In 2024 Snyder returned to Batman as the writer of DC’s Absolute Batman, illustrated by Nick Dragotta and set within the publisher’s new Absolute Universe. Absolute Batman won the 2026 Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series.
