Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Russell Kane is a comedian, presenter, actor, author and scriptwriter. He won Best Show at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards in 2010, and he also won the Melbourne Comedy Festival’s Barry Award in the same year. His books for adult readers include the novel The Humorist, published in 2012, and the memoir Son of a Silverback: Growing Up in the Shadow of an Alpha Male, published in 2019, with the Corgi paperback edition following in 2020.
Kane also writes for children. His non-fiction book Pet Selector! A Hilarious Guide to all the Usual and Unusual Household Pets was published by Words & Pictures Press in 2024, illustrated by Erica Salcedo, and is aimed at readers aged 9 to 11. The book introduces a wide range of pets, including cats, dogs, rabbits, budgies, rodents, insects and reptiles. His picture book When Brian Met Terry, also illustrated by Erica Salcedo and published by words & pictures, is scheduled for 5 May 2026.
