Philip K. Dick was an American author known for his prolific output of science fiction novels and short stories. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, and began publishing stories in the early 1950s. Dick’s work often explored themes such as altered states, authoritarianism, and the nature of reality, frequently featuring protagonists who question the world around them.
Among his most notable novels are Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (1968), which served as the basis for the film “Blade Runner,” and The Man in the High Castle (1962), which imagines an alternate history in which the Axis powers won World War II. Other significant works include Ubik (1969), A Scanner Darkly (1977), and Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said (1974).
Philip K. Dick’s writing was recognised with several awards. He won the Hugo Award for Best Novel in 1963 for The Man in the High Castle. In 1975, Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said received the John W. Campbell Memorial Award for Best Science Fiction Novel. His short stories and novels have been widely anthologised and remain influential in the science fiction genre.
Philip K. Dick’s final novel, The Transmigration of Timothy Archer, was published in 1982.
