Paul Cookson biography

Paul Cookson is a poet and performer for children and a National Poetry Day Ambassador. He has worked as a poet since 1989 and has visited thousands of schools.

He has written and edited over 60 titles, with total sales reported in excess of one million copies. He is the editor of The Works, a widely used school poetry anthology.

Since 2006 he has been Poet in Residence at the National Football Museum in Manchester. He is also Poetry Ambassador for United Learning and Poet Laureate for the band Slade.

He has collaborated with former Slade drummer Don Powell in Don Powell’s Occasional Flames, and has produced classroom poetry resources for the National Literacy Trust.

In 2009 he received recognition as a National Reading Hero, including an invitation to 10 Downing Street.
