Muhammad Khan is an engineer, a secondary-school maths teacher and a young adult author. He takes inspiration from the children he teaches and from his upbringing as a British-born Pakistani, and he has an MA in Creative Writing from St Mary’s. His debut novel, I Am Thunder, follows fifteen-year-old Muzna Saleem and won the Branford Boase Award after being shortlisted for the YA Book Prize. The book was published by Macmillan Children’s Books in January 2018.
His second novel, Kick the Moon, was published by Macmillan Children’s Books on 24 January 2019 and centres on fifteen-year-old Ilyas, GCSE pressure and friendship. In 2020 he wrote Split, a short story about Salma Hashbi for World Book Day. He then published Mark My Words, a novel about fifteen-year-old Dua Iqbal and school journalism, with Macmillan Children’s Books on 17 February 2022.
