Mick Inkpen is a British author and illustrator known for his work in children’s literature. He is the creator of the Kipper the Dog series, which began with the publication of Kipper in 1991. The series has sold millions of copies worldwide and has been adapted into a television programme. Inkpen is also the author and illustrator of the Wibbly Pig books, first published in 1997, which have also been adapted for television.
Inkpen’s first published book was The Blue Balloon in 1989, which introduced the character Kipper. He has written and illustrated numerous other titles, including Lullabyhullaballoo, Threadbear, and Puppy Love. His books are published by Hodder Children’s Books and Hodder & Stoughton.
Inkpen has received several awards for his work. He won the British Book Award for Children’s Book of the Year in 1991 for Kipper. He has also received the Children’s Book Award twice, for Lullabyhullaballoo in 1993 and Threadbear in 1990. In 2008, Kipper was included in the Booktrust’s list of the “Best 100 Children’s Books of All Time”.
In recent years, Inkpen has collaborated with his daughter, Chloe Inkpen, on the Zoe and Beans series, published by Macmillan Children’s Books. His books have been translated into multiple languages and continue to be widely read in the UK and internationally.
In 2012, the Kipper series celebrated its 21st anniversary with special editions and events.
