Mariesa Dulak biography

Mariesa Dulak is a children’s author whose picture books centre on identity, family life and noticing the world. Yorkshire-born and of Black Barbadian and White British heritage, she studied English Literature at King’s College London and completed an MA in Children’s Literature before working in publishing and later as a primary school librarian. She developed her writing with the Golden Egg Academy and is a FAB Prize winner.

Her debut picture book, There’s a Tiger on the Train, illustrated by Rebecca Cobb, follows a child and dad on a seaside-bound journey where improbable passengers board at every stop, nudging readers to look up and share the moment. Faber Children’s first published the title in 2024.

Dulak’s second picture book, The Silver Shadow, illustrated by Alea Marley, draws on family memories of Barbados to tell a tide-pool rescue story about care for the natural world and finding your voice. It was published by Candlewick on 13 May 2025.
