Margaret Wild is an Australian author known for her contributions to children’s and young adult literature. She was born in South Africa and moved to Australia in 1972. Wild began her career as a journalist and later worked as a book editor before focusing on writing for children.
Wild has written numerous picture books, novels, and poetry collections for young readers. Her work often explores themes such as family, friendship, and the complexities of life and death. She has collaborated with a range of illustrators, including Ron Brooks and Jane Tanner, producing books that are widely used in educational settings.
Some of her notable picture books include Fox, illustrated by Ron Brooks, and There’s a Sea in My Bedroom, illustrated by Jane Tanner. Wild’s writing is recognised for its sensitivity and depth, appealing to both children and adults.
Margaret Wild’s books have received multiple awards and honours. Fox was named an Honour Book in the 2001 Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Picture Book of the Year Awards.
