Lisa Williamson is a British author acclaimed for her young adult and middle-grade fiction. Born on 5 February 1980 in Nottingham, she spent her early years in Arnold, Nottinghamshire. As a child, she enjoyed drawing and storytelling, often creating narratives in her imagination. At 19, she moved to London to study Performing Arts at Middlesex University, graduating with a degree in Drama. Following her studies, she pursued acting under the stage name Lisa Cassidy, appearing in various productions, including pantomimes and television commercials.
Williamson continued her exploration of adolescent experiences with subsequent novels. All About Mia (2017) delves into sibling dynamics, while Paper Avalanche (2019) portrays a teenager coping with her mother’s hoarding behaviour; the latter was longlisted for the 2020 Carnegie Medal. In 2018, she co-authored Floored, a collaborative novel with six other writers. Her 2021 release, First Day of My Life, was shortlisted for the 2022 YA Book Prize.
Expanding into non-fiction, Williamson authored biographies for younger readers, including titles on Malala Yousafzai and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. In 2023, she launched the Bigg School series for middle-grade readers, focusing on Year 7 students navigating the transition to secondary school. The series includes Best Friends Forever (2023), Double Drama (2024), Secret Crush (2024), and Scaredy Cat (2025).
