Libby Jackson biography

Libby Jackson writes non-fiction about human spaceflight and space exploration. She is Head of Space at the Science Museum in London and has worked for more than a decade at the forefront of human spaceflight. She completed degrees in physics at Imperial College London and in astronautics and space engineering at Cranfield University.

Her space-industry career began after she applied for work experience at NASA at the age of 17 and went to Mission Control in Houston. She later worked at Mission Control from the European Space Agency side in Munich and worked as a Columbus Flight Director on missions to the International Space Station. From 2014 to 2016, she managed UK Space Agency education and outreach programmes supporting Tim Peake’s mission.

A Galaxy of Her Own: Amazing Stories of Women in Space was published by Century on 16 November 2017. The book tells fifty stories of women connected with the history of humans in space, from scientists and astronauts to other roles in space exploration, and includes artwork by students of London College of Communication.

Space Explorers, illustrated by Léonard Dupond, was published in hardback on 3 September 2020. It is a Key Stage 2 title for readers from around age 8 and presents real-life stories from space exploration, including the first journeys into space and the building of the International Space Station.
