Julia Jarman biography

Julia Jarman is a British author known for her work in children’s and young adult fiction. She studied English and Drama at Manchester University before becoming a teacher. Jarman began writing for children in the 1980s, and her books span a range of genres, including picture books, early readers, and novels for older children.

Her writing often explores themes relevant to young readers, such as friendship, family, and adventure. Jarman’s picture books include the popular Big Red Bath, illustrated by Adrian Reynolds and published by Orchard Books. She has also written the Time-Travelling Cat series, which follows the adventures of a boy named Topher and his cat, Ka, as they travel to different historical periods. The first book in this series, The Time-Travelling Cat and the Egyptian Goddess, was published by Andersen Press.

Jarman’s novels for older children include Hangman and Ghost Writer. Her work has been recognised by several award nominations. For example, Big Red Bath was shortlisted for the Stockport Schools Book Award in 2005.
