Jon Scieszka biography

Jon Scieszka is an American author best known for his contributions to children’s literature. He is recognised for his distinctive approach to storytelling, often incorporating humour and unconventional narrative structures. Scieszka trained as an elementary school teacher and taught for several years before turning to writing.

His debut picture book, The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs!, illustrated by Lane Smith, was published in 1989. The book presents a retelling of the classic fairy tale from the perspective of the wolf, and is noted for its playful tone and inventive style. Scieszka and Smith have collaborated on several other books, including The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales, which was published in 1992 and received a Caldecott Honor.

Scieszka is also the creator of the Time Warp Trio series, which follows the adventures of three friends who travel through time using a magical book. The series includes titles such as Knights of the Kitchen Table and Your Mother Was a Neanderthal. In addition to his fiction, Scieszka has edited anthologies and written early reader books, including the Trucktown series.

In 2008, Jon Scieszka was appointed the first National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature in the United States, a role created by the Library of Congress and the Children’s Book Council to promote reading among young people. His work has been published by Penguin Random House and HarperCollins.
