Jon Lock biography

Jon Lock is a British writer and game designer whose work spans independent comics, children’s graphic novels and tabletop games. He has been creating comics and games for more than 15 years, building a career in both self-published projects and commissioned work.

Lock is the creator of Afterlife Inc., a British comic series about a con artist who takes over the afterlife and runs it as a modern corporation. The series began online and developed into a sequence of collected volumes published by Big Punch Studios.

In 2015 Lock co-founded Big Punch Studios with collaborators including Nich Angell. Through Big Punch Studios he has written and edited titles such as Cuckoos, Orb and 99 Swords, and co-created the card game Sandwich Masters. The studio also produces podcasts and games alongside its comics list.

Lock writes for other publishers as well as for his own imprint. He is the author of the children’s graphic novel series Tiny Hercules for Macmillan Children’s Books, illustrated by Nich Angell. He has additionally written comics for the long-running British anthology 2000 AD and scripts for video games for clients including LEGO, Retroware and Nicalis, and he is the writer on a video game based on the Toxic Crusaders property from Troma Entertainment.

In 2023 Lock received a National Lottery Project Grant from Arts Council England to create a 160-page graphic novel and to deliver free comic-making workshops for children aged 8–11 in deprived areas of Gloucester.
