Jerry Craft is an American author and illustrator known for his work in children’s graphic novels. He is the creator of the graphic novel New Kid, which was published by HarperCollins in 2019. Craft has also written and illustrated the companion novel Class Act, released in 2020. His books often explore themes of school life and the experiences of young people navigating new environments.
Before his success as a graphic novelist, Craft created the syndicated comic strip Mama’s Boyz, which ran for many years and focused on the lives of an African American family. He has contributed illustrations to a range of publications and has worked on several other children’s books as both author and illustrator.
Jerry Craft’s New Kid received the Newbery Medal in 2020, marking a significant milestone in his career.
