Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Jen Green is a British author specialising in non-fiction for children and adults, with more than 300 published titles. She earned a doctorate in English literature from the University of Sussex, where she previously taught and examined undergraduate courses. Before becoming a full-time writer, Green worked in publishing from 1981 to 1996, serving initially as an editor and later as a commissioning editor.
Green’s subjects include history, nature and environment, geography, science and social issues. Among her recent works are biographies of Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi, and an audiobook on the solar system.
She also authored the chapter “Writing Successful Non-fiction” for the Children’s Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook (Bloomsbury, 2014). In 2012–13, Green held a Royal Literary Fund Fellowship at the University of Sussex.
A representative title is The Magic and Mystery of Trees, one of the many non-fiction books she has published for younger readers.
