Janice Hallett biography

Janice Hallett is a British author and screenwriter known for her work in crime and mystery fiction. She studied English at University College London. Before becoming a novelist, Hallett worked as a journalist, magazine editor, and screenwriter. Her screenwriting credits include co-writing the 2011 film Retreat.

Hallett’s debut novel, The Appeal, was published by Viper Books in 2021. The novel is structured as a series of emails, texts, and documents, and centres on a murder investigation within a small community theatre group. The Appeal was shortlisted for the 2021 CWA New Blood Dagger and won the 2022 CWA Debut Dagger.

Her second novel, The Twyford Code, was published by Viper Books in 2022. This book follows a former pupil investigating the disappearance of his teacher, using transcribed audio files as its narrative device. Hallett’s third novel, The Mysterious Case of the Alperton Angels, was published by Viper Books in 2023.

Janice Hallett’s The Appeal won the 2022 CWA Debut Dagger.
