Jane Ray is a British illustrator and author known for her work in children’s literature. She studied art at Middlesex University and began her career as a designer and illustrator. Ray has illustrated numerous books for children, often drawing on themes from folklore, fairy tales, and mythology. Her distinctive style is characterised by detailed, decorative artwork and the use of rich colours.
Ray has collaborated with a range of authors, including Michael Rosen, Carol Ann Duffy, and Jeanette Winterson. She has also written and illustrated her own books, such as The Apple-Pip Princess and Ahmed and the Feather Girl. Her illustrations have appeared in retellings of classic stories, including Hansel and Gretel and The Twelve Days of Christmas.
Jane Ray’s work has been recognised by several award nominations. She was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal for illustration. In 2013, her book Ahmed and the Feather Girl was published by Frances Lincoln Children’s Books.
