Ibram X. Kendi is an American author, historian and academic whose books for young readers address racism, antiracism and the history of racist ideas.
His adult nonfiction book Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America won the National Book Award for Nonfiction in 2016. A young adult version, Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You, written with Jason Reynolds, was published in 2020.
Kendi’s books for children include Antiracist Baby, illustrated by Ashley Lukashevsky, and Goodnight Racism, illustrated by Cbabi Bayoc. Antiracist Baby debuted at number one on the New York Times Best Seller list.
Kendi is Professor of History at Howard University and the inaugural director of the Howard University Institute for Advanced Study. In 2026, Howard University appointed him as the inaugural Carter G. Woodson Endowed Chair in History.
