Gill Lewis biography

Gill Lewis is a British author known for her children’s books, particularly those with themes of wildlife and conservation. She studied veterinary medicine at the University of Cambridge and worked as a veterinary surgeon before becoming a writer. Her debut novel, Sky Hawk, was published by Oxford University Press in 2011. The book was shortlisted for the 2011 Red House Children’s Book Award and the 2012 Waterstones Children’s Book Prize.

Lewis’s subsequent works include White Dolphin (2012), Moon Bear (2013), Gorilla Dawn (2015), and A Story Like the Wind (2017). Her books have been translated into multiple languages and have received recognition for their focus on environmental and animal welfare issues. Sky Hawk was nominated for the Carnegie Medal, and White Dolphin was shortlisted for the Blue Peter Book Award.

In 2015, Lewis won the Little Rebels Children’s Book Award for Gorilla Dawn. She has also written for Barrington Stoke, including the titles Pup (2015) and The Closest Thing to Flying (2018). Her novel Swan Song was published in 2021. Lewis continues to publish books for children and young people, with a focus on stories that highlight the relationship between humans and the natural world.

Her book A Story Like the Wind was illustrated by Jo Weaver and published by Oxford University Press in 2017.
