Gary Stevenson is an economist and writer whose memoir The Trading Game: A Confession was published on 5 March 2024. The book recounts how he won a bank-run competition called the Trading Game, began work as a trader, and later became the bank’s most profitable trader. In the book’s account of his career, he dealt in nearly a trillion dollars a day.
After leaving trading, Stevenson studied for an MSc at Oxford, worked with economic think tanks, and founded the GarysEconomics YouTube channel, where he teaches real-world economics. He has also written for The Guardian and OpenDemocracy. A US edition of The Trading Game was published by Crown Currency on 11 February 2025.
