Dotty Sutton biography

Dotty Sutton is a children’s book illustrator and model maker whose character-led artwork appears across illustrated fiction and chapter books. Her credits include Sam Copeland’s Alex vs Axel series for Puffin and Gary Panton’s The Notwitches for Chicken House. She also illustrated James Davis’s humour-adventure Scarlet: Defender of the Universe for HarperCollins Children’s Books.

Sutton’s practice spans pen-and-ink character work, dynamic black-and-white interiors and cover design. Alongside book commissions she develops miniature models and props that inform her visual worldbuilding and character design.

She graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Illustration from Falmouth University and was selected for the D&AD New Blood Academy early in her career. She is represented by Arena Illustration.

Alex vs Axel: The Impossible Quests was selected as Waterstones Children’s Book of the Month in 2024.
