Deborah Chancellor is a British author who has written over 100 books for children and young people. Her work spans fiction, non-fiction, and educational titles. Chancellor studied Modern and Medieval Languages at Newnham College, University of Cambridge. She began her writing career after working as a teacher.
Her non-fiction books cover a range of subjects, including history, religion, and science. Notable titles include Escape from Colditz (Barrington Stoke), Harriet Tubman (Wayland), and Code Breakers (Barrington Stoke). Chancellor has also contributed to the Horrible Geography series, working alongside author Anita Ganeri.
Chancellor’s fiction includes Being a Girl (Usborne), which addresses puberty and adolescence, and My Secret Diary (Scholastic), a historical fiction title. She has written for several major publishers, including Usborne, Barrington Stoke, Wayland, and Scholastic.
Her book Escape from Colditz was shortlisted for the 2018 Young Quills Award for Historical Fiction. Chancellor’s work is widely used in schools and libraries across the UK.
