David Weitzman is an author and illustrator of books for children about America’s industrial and technical history. He has written and illustrated more than a dozen children’s books in this area, including Skywalkers: Mohawk Ironworkers Build the City.
His books include Old Ironsides, Pouring Iron and Superpower. Superpower: The Making of a Steam Locomotive depicts the building of the first Berkshire steam locomotive and was published on 1 November 1987.
A Subway for New York was published in 2005, and The John Bull: A British Locomotive Comes to America was published in 2004. These titles show his continuing focus on transport, engineering and the history of machines for young readers.
Pharaoh’s Boat, written and illustrated by Weitzman, was released on 18 May 2009. The book describes the ancient construction and modern reconstruction of a ceremonial boat connected with the pharaoh Cheops, and its edition for readers aged 9 to 12 was published by Purple House Press on 15 October 2024.
Skywalkers: Mohawk Ironworkers Build the City was published by Roaring Brook Press in September 2010. In the book, Weitzman uses narrative text and historical photographs to explore Native American history, structural engineering and the role of Mohawk ironworkers in building bridges and skyscrapers.
