Danio Miserocchi is an Italian naturalist, teacher and children’s non-fiction author. He studied natural sciences at the University of Ferrara and has worked as a researcher and educator at the Natural History Museum of Ferrara and MUSE, the Science Museum of Trento. His professional work includes environmental education, biodiversity research and conservation projects with museums and local organisations, particularly involving overlooked species of plants and animals.
Miserocchi collaborated with writer Maciej Michno and illustrator Valentina Gottardi on Caduto. La seconda vita degli alberi, published by the Italian publisher Cocai Books. The illustrated non-fiction book follows the transformation of a fallen tree as insects, fungi, plants and animals establish new habitats within its decaying wood. It received a Special Mention in the Non-Fiction category of the 2024 BolognaRagazzi Awards.
An English-language edition, The Tomorrow Tree: How Nature Creates New Life from Old, was published by Phaidon in 2025. The book introduces children to forest ecosystems, decomposition and the role of dead wood in supporting biodiversity.
Miserocchi and Michno also wrote Who Hid the Stars? How Light Pollution Changes Our World, illustrated by Gottardi and translated from Italian by Sylvia Notini. Published by Eerdmans Books for Young Readers on 24 March 2026, it examines the effects of artificial lighting on wildlife, plants and natural environments. The original Italian edition was shortlisted for the 2024 Premio Piccolo Galileo. The English edition forms part of Eerdmans’ Spectacular STEAM for Curious Readers series.
His subsequent collaboration with Michno and Gottardi, Still Water: The Wonders of Ponds, Pools, Wetlands, and More, explores freshwater habitats, the organisms that inhabit them and the ecological importance of wetlands. Translated by Sylvia Notini, it was published by Eerdmans Books for Young Readers on 18 August 2026.
