Cormac McCarthy was an American novelist and playwright. He published his first novel, The Orchard Keeper, in 1965 with Random House. McCarthy’s early works include Outer Dark (1968), Child of God (1973), and Suttree (1979). In 1985, he released Blood Meridian, which has been widely recognised for its distinctive style and historical setting.
McCarthy achieved broader recognition with the publication of the Border Trilogy: All the Pretty Horses (1992), The Crossing (1994), and Cities of the Plain (1998). All the Pretty Horses won the U.S. National Book Award for Fiction and the National Book Critics Circle Award in 1992.
In 2005, McCarthy published No Country for Old Men, which was later adapted into an Academy Award-winning film. His 2006 novel, The Road, won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2007. McCarthy’s works have been published by Random House, Alfred A. Knopf, and Picador, among others.
His later publications include The Passenger and Stella Maris, both released in 2022. McCarthy’s writing is noted for its sparse punctuation and distinctive prose style. He died in 2023.
