Charles Soule biography

Charles Soule is an American novelist and comic-book writer who previously worked as an attorney. He graduated from Columbia Law School and worked in corporate law before establishing his own legal practice, eventually leaving the profession to write full time.

Soule has written extensively for Marvel and DC Comics. His credits include Daredevil, She-Hulk, Death of Wolverine, Swamp Thing and Superman/Wonder Woman. His creator-owned comics include Letter 44, Curse Words, Eight Billion Genies with artist Ryan Browne, and Undiscovered Country, co-written with Scott Snyder and illustrated by Giuseppe Camuncoli and Daniele Orlandini.

He has also written numerous Star Wars comics, including Lando, Obi-Wan & Anakin, Poe Dameron, Darth Vader and The Rise of Kylo Ren. Soule is a creative consultant for Lucasfilm and was one of the founding writers who developed Star Wars: The High Republic. His novel Light of the Jedi, published in 2021, launched the interconnected High Republic publishing programme and became a number-one New York Times bestseller.

For younger readers, Soule co-wrote Star Wars: The High Republic: Jedi Brave in Every Way with Rosemary Soule. Published by Disney Lucasfilm Press in 2023 and illustrated by Valerie Valdivia, the picture book introduces young readers to Jedi characters from the High Republic era while exploring different forms of bravery.

Soule’s prose novels also include The Oracle Year, Anyone and The Endless Vessel, published by HarperCollins. His High Republic novel Trials of the Jedi, published by Random House Worlds in 2025, brought the main adult-novel strand of the multi-year publishing project to its conclusion.
