C.S. Pacat biography

C.S. Pacat is an Australian author known for writing young adult and fantasy fiction. Pacat gained recognition with the Captive Prince trilogy, which began as an online serial before being published by Penguin Random House. The trilogy comprises Captive Prince (2013), Prince’s Gambit (2013), and Kings Rising (2016). The series has been published in multiple languages and has attracted an international readership.

Pacat is also the author of the Fence graphic novel series, published by BOOM! Studios. The series, illustrated by Johanna the Mad, follows the story of a young fencer and has been well received in the young adult graphic novel market. The first volume was released in 2018, with subsequent volumes continuing the story.

In 2021, Pacat published Dark Rise, the first book in a new young adult fantasy series, with Allen & Unwin in Australia and HarperCollins in the United States. Dark Rise was shortlisted for the 2022 Aurealis Award for Best Fantasy Novel.

Pacat’s works have been noted for their exploration of complex characters and themes within the fantasy and young adult genres. The Captive Prince trilogy and Fence series have both achieved commercial success and critical recognition. Dark Rise marked Pacat’s return to fantasy fiction and was followed by a sequel, Dark Heir, published in 2023.

In 2022, Dark Rise was shortlisted for the Aurealis Award for Best Fantasy Novel.
