Ben Mantle is a British illustrator and author known for his work in children’s picture books. He studied animation at the Surrey Institute of Art & Design and began his career working on the BAFTA-winning animated film The Secret Show for the BBC. After his time in animation, Mantle transitioned to children’s publishing, where he has illustrated and authored numerous books.
Mantle has illustrated titles for a range of publishers, including Macmillan Children’s Books, Nosy Crow, and Simon & Schuster. His illustration work includes the Dinosaurs in the Supermarket! series written by Timothy Knapman, and the Princess in Black series by Shannon and Dean Hale. He is also the illustrator of Callum’s Incredible Construction Kit by Jonathan Emmett, which was shortlisted for the 2013 Roald Dahl Funny Prize.
In addition to illustrating, Mantle has written and illustrated his own books. His author-illustrator titles include Grandad’s Camper, published by Andersen Press in 2021. This book was awarded the 2022 Stonewall Book Award in the United States.
Ben Mantle’s work is recognised for its vibrant, engaging illustrations and its appeal to young readers. He continues to contribute to children’s literature as both an illustrator and author, with Grandad’s Camper winning the Stonewall Book Award in 2022.
