B.B. Alston biography

B.B. Alston is an American author best known for his middle-grade fantasy series, Amari and the Night Brothers. The first book in the series was published by Balzer + Bray, an imprint of HarperCollins, in January 2021. The novel follows the story of Amari Peters as she discovers a world of magic and secret societies. The book became a New York Times bestseller and has been translated into multiple languages.

Alston’s debut received critical acclaim and was longlisted for the 2022 CILIP Carnegie Medal. Amari and the Night Brothers was also selected as a Waterstones Children’s Book of the Month and featured on the Indie Next List. Universal Pictures acquired film rights to the book, with Marsai Martin attached to produce.

The sequel, Amari and the Great Game, was published in August 2022. The series is published in the UK by Farshore, an imprint of HarperCollins Children’s Books. Alston’s work has been recognised for its imaginative world-building and appeal to young readers. In 2021, Amari and the Night Brothers was shortlisted for the Goodreads Choice Award for Middle Grade & Children’s.

Alston’s books have appeared on bestseller lists in both the United States and the United Kingdom. Amari and the Night Brothers was named a Blackwell’s Children’s Book of the Year in 2021.
