Andrew Jennings (3 September 1943 – 8 January 2022) was a British investigative journalist and author. He earned a degree from the University of Hull and began his career on the Sunday Times Insight team, later working on BBC Radio Four’s Checkpoint and Granada Television’s World in Action.
Jennings exposed systemic corruption within major sports bodies, including Scotland Yard, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and FIFA. His books include Scotland Yard’s Cocaine Connection (1989), The Lords of the Rings (1992), The New Lords of the Rings (1996), The Great Olympic Swindle (2000), FOUL! The Secret World of FIFA (2006), Omertà: Sepp Blatter’s FIFA Organised Crime Family (2014), and The Dirty Game (2015).
His BBC Panorama documentaries included the 2006 film “The Beautiful Bung: Corruption and the World Cup” and the 2010 exposé “FIFA’s Dirty Secrets.” His reporting contributed to a crackdown on corruption in both the IOC and FIFA, including prompting investigations into Olympic and World Cup governance.
Jennings received the New York TV Festival gold medal in 1989 and the Play the Game Award in 2011, recognising his long-standing work uncovering sports corruption.
He died from an aortic aneurysm on 8 January 2022 at the age of 78 in Carlisle, England.
