Alison Wilcox biography

Alison Wilcox is a British educator and author known for her contributions to primary and secondary creative writing resources. She began her teaching career in primary schools and developed classroom materials to support pupils’ descriptive writing skills. Wilcox is the creator of the Descriptosaurus series, first published by Routledge in 2008. The original Descriptosaurus: Supporting Creative Writing for Ages 8–14 provides structured vocabulary and model sentences to help young writers develop their use of language.

Building on the success of the initial book, Wilcox wrote companion volumes including Descriptosaurus: Action & Adventure, Descriptosaurus: Fantasy, and Descriptosaurus: Ghost Stories. These titles offer genre-specific prompts and language support for a range of writing tasks. Her later book, Descriptosaurus Personal Writing: The Writing Process in Action, was published in 2021 and guides children through the process of planning, drafting, and editing personal narratives.

Wilcox’s materials are widely used by teachers, literacy coordinators, and intervention specialists across the UK. The Descriptosaurus resources have been updated over multiple editions to reflect new curriculum requirements and now include themes such as non-fiction writing, volcanoes, and polar exploration.
