Alexis Deacon biography

Alexis Deacon is a British author and illustrator known for his work in children’s literature. He graduated from the University of Brighton in 2001, where he studied illustration. Deacon’s debut picture book, Slow Loris, was published in 2002 by Red Fox, an imprint of Random House. The book was well-received and marked the beginning of his career in children’s literature.

In 2003, Deacon published Beegu, a story about a small alien who finds herself lost on Earth. Beegu was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal and won the New York Times Best Illustrated Book Award. His subsequent works include Jitterbug Jam (2004), written by Barbara Jean Hicks, and While You Are Sleeping (2006), which he both illustrated.

Deacon’s collaboration with author Russell Hoban on Jim’s Lion in 2009 further showcased his illustrative talents. In 2011, he released Croc and Bird, a picture book exploring themes of friendship and identity. His work continued to gain recognition, and in 2014, he illustrated The Selfish Giant, a retelling of Oscar Wilde’s classic story.

In addition to picture books, Deacon has ventured into graphic novels. His graphic novel Geis: A Matter of Life & Death was published in 2016, followed by its sequels Geis II: A Game Without Rules in 2017 and Geis III: The Will That Shapes the World in 2018. The Geis series has been praised for its intricate storytelling and artwork.
