Yusei Matsui biography

Yusei Matsui is a Japanese manga artist best known as the creator of Assassination Classroom. He was born in Iruma, Saitama Prefecture, Japan, in 1979.

Matsui worked as an assistant to Yoshio Sawai, the creator of Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, before debuting as a manga author.

His first serialised work was Neuro: Supernatural Detective (Majin Tantei Nōgami Neuro), which ran in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 2005 to 2009 and was later adapted into an anime television series.

Assassination Classroom (Ansatsu Kyōshitsu) was serialised in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 2012 to 2016. The series follows a class of students tasked with assassinating their alien teacher, Koro-sensei, before he destroys the Earth. It was adapted into an anime series (2015–2016) and two live-action films (2015, 2016).

In 2021 Matsui launched a new historical manga, The Elusive Samurai (Nigejōzu no Wakagimi), set in 14th-century Japan during the Kamakura and Muromachi periods. It is serialised in Weekly Shōnen Jump and has been licensed in English by Viz Media.
