Sohn Won-pyung is a South Korean novelist, director, and screenwriter, born in Seoul in 1979. She studied social studies and philosophy at Sogang University and film directing at the Korean Academy of Film Arts.
Before publishing novels, she made short films, receiving awards including the Film Review Award from Cine21 and the Best Scenario Synopsis Award at a science-fiction creative writing competition in 2006.
Her literary debut was the 2016 novel Almond, which won the Changbi Prize for Young Adult Fiction. In 2017, she published Counterattack of the Thirty, which won the Jeju 4.3 Peace Literary Prize.
Sohn’s works have been translated into multiple languages, with Almond published in at least twelve countries.
